Wayland Union Middle School
WUMS-TV Station

WUMS-TV is the closed-circuit TV station run by Wayland Union Middle School students.  Each year, student groups take control of the station and create award winning programs.  These are broadcast to over 500 students and staff in the school.  Shows are published here for all to enjoy.

Quality TV News has long been a tradition at Wayland Union Middle School.  Each year has brought new challenges and new experiences.

In 2006, the news became "The Catalyst", a high intensity program designed to move people to action.  A prime goal of "The Catalyst" is to produce reports that are self-contained.  These reports will be published online and on DVD for new and prospective students and families.

In 2005, the news program evolved into "The Cat's List", an exciting selection of the most interesting and hot topics.  Four different groups produced the show, each group divided into five task teams.  Teams included management, reporting, photography, graphics and technical operations.  The groups produced 18 programs of various lengths.

In 2004, "The News" ventured beyond school hours as a hybrid of in-school and after-school learning.  The team produced 14 high quality programs.  This began the slow evolution of the news programs from primarily during the school day, to primarily an outside of school hours activity.  Currently, "The Catalyst" reporters each devote nearly 10 hours per week outside the school day to the show.
